Curl is not your only tool when creating or testing out APIs. On her blog Lorna Jane Mitchell made a nice list of alternatives.
At a conference a few days ago, I put up a slide with a few of my favourite tools on it. Get the weather report in your terminal original
Here's something fun, you can get a weather report right in your terminal. For my hometown Antwerp I excecute this command curl http://wttr.in/antwerp to see this:
